Val Thorens season dates 2018-19

View of the Aiguilles d'Arves from Cime de Caron

The 2018-19 ski season in Val Thorens starts on Saturday 17th November 2018 (postponed to Saturday 24th November 2018), and continues to Sunday 5th May 2019.

How many lifts open at the very start of the season depends on how much snow has fallen. In any case, there's usually a phased opening of the ski area, with just a few lifts to begin with, giving access to pistes which benefit from snow cannons.

Val Thorens stays open until the end of the French spring school holidays, which usually means until the end of the first week of May. Although it can be warm by that time of year, there has never been any problem keeping the majority of pistes open.

Why Val Thorens?

Top of Funitel des 3 Vallées, Val Thorens

Why do we love Val Thorens? Above all for the snow and terrain. As the highest resort in Europe, it often has some of the best snow. Why ski on icy hardpack, when you've got the option of soft, cold, fresh snow in VT? As for the terrain, there's an extensive beginners' area, kilometres of varied pistes for intermediates, a top-class snowpark, a World Cup Skicross, and a Funslope (easy skicross). You can find a wealth of off-piste, too, including some of the most charming itineraries in the Alps.

The lift system is constantly being improved. New in Val Thorens for 2018-19, there's to be a 2-person zip wire from the top of Moraine back to the Rond Point des Pistes. A blue run has been created, down from the Cime de Caron, and a black run in the Boismint sector. There are also to be new itinerary runs. Val Thorens never stands still!
