What's new in Val Thorens for 2014-15

12th August 2014

As you would expect from this dynamic ski resort, there are changes in Val Thorens in advance of the 2014-15 ski season.

Moraine and Portette lifts

Two chairlifts are due to be replaced - Portette and Plan de l' Eau. The Portette lift will start from lower down, near the Moraine chair and the Chalets du Thorens, so as to be accessible from the Chalets du Thorens. Plan de l' Eau is currently an old non-detachable chair, and the new chairlift will be detachable, modern, faster, and longer, so arriving higher up.

In honour of Val Thorens's Oympic champion, the Boardercross (ski cross) will be renamed Jean-Fred Chapuis.

Lac du Lou

The Club Med Sensations, a luxury 384-bed hotel, will open in December 2014. Also opening is the 4-star Hotel Kashmir, presumably on the site of the Hameau du Kashmir apartments. The Hotel 3 Vallées is being upgraded from 3 stars to four.

Finally, Val Thorens is to have an Office de la Montagne, offering various activities, including dives under the ice of the Lac du Lou, organised by the new ski school in resort, EV2.
